We will divide into “Benthamites’’ and ‘’Millites’’ and get to know these two giants of Western thought more intimately. Each group will research the social and political context in which each lived; explain their work, and their influence on western thought. The goal is to make a presentation in class sufficiently comprehensive that you could all have something useful to say to Mr. Works if he were to ask you about the contributions of these two thinkers to the Western canon.  In furtherance of this goal, you will want to create a ‘’Study Sheet’’ for your counterparts to use while your group is making its presentation. This will also help you to organize your work.

The presentations will begin Tuesday, Dec. 16. The redoubtable Ms. Jansen will be our research colleague.
